Big Ten to require game day injury reports (Big Ten Football Schedule)

The Big Ten will begin requiring its member schools to release game day injury reports starting this season, the conference announced Friday.

Reports will be released no later than two hours before kickoff, and are seen as a defense against concerns brought about by the widespread adoption of sports gambling. The conference will work with U.S. Integrity to provide monitoring and education.

“The well-being of our students, coaches, and staff, as well as the integrity of our competitions are of paramount importance,” said commissioner Tony Petitti. “Enhanced transparency through availability reporting and partnering with U.S. Integrity strengthens our efforts to protect those who participate in our games as well as the integrity of the games themselves. I’m grateful for the collaboration of our schools, coaches, and administrators.”

The conference did not specify how its injury reports will look, but it's expected the league will copy the NFL's system:

OUT: Zero chance to play
DOUBTFUL: 25 percent chance to play
QUESTIONABLE: A game-time decision; 50 percent chance to play
PROBABLE: More likely than not to play

The Big Ten will distribute its injury reports on its website and through Twitter.

The 2023 Big Ten season begins Thursday with Nebraska at Minnesota (8 p.m. ET, Fox).
