Pete Thamel reports this morning that Utah State head coach Blake Anderson has been placed on administrative leave, and is unlikely to return as head coach.
Defensive coordinator Nate Dreiling has been named interim head coach, Thamel adds.
No further details have been provided at this time.
Anderson would have been entering his fourth season leading the Aggies, where he put together a 23-17 record with the team.
His first season resulted in an 11-3 campaign that saw the Aggies win the Mountain West title and finish among the top 25 teams nationally.
In the two seasons since, Anderson led them to bowl games and back-to-back 6-7 finishes.
He previously led Arkansas State on a successful 51-37 run from 2014-2020, winning the Sun Belt in back-to-back seasons in 2015-16.
The last several years have been challenging for the Anderson family, to say the least. Back in August of 2019, while leading the Red Wolves, the Anderson's announced that Blake's wife, Wendy, passed after a battle with cancer and the family lost son, Cason, a few years later to suicide.
