Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker is expected to take the same position at LSU, the school announced Friday night.
Baker was Brian Kelly's initial target after letting his defensive staff go earlier this week, though Missouri gave him plenty to think about to remain with the black-and-gold Tigers.
“Blake brings a wealth of experience and success as a defensive coordinator throughout his career, including the last two years in the SEC at Missouri,” Kelly said. “His ability to develop and motivate his players while putting together highly successful defenses sets him apart in his field. I am excited to welcome Blake and his family back to Baton Rouge.”
A former Tulane linebacker who married a former LSU soccer player, the return to the Bayou State will be a triumphant one for Baker.
He spent 2021 as the linebackers coach on Ed Orgeron's final staff, but was not retained by Kelly.
Now, he'll return to Baton Rouge to run Kelly's defense, and be paid handsomely to do so. Former defensive coordinator Matt House earned around $2 million per year.
Baker signed a 3-year deal worth between $2.2 and $2.5 million a year.
