Shemy Schembechler has joined Michigan's staff as assistant director of recruiting, he announced Wednesday.
If the name sounds familiar, well, it should. Schembechler is the son of Bo Schembechler, the iconic Michigan coach who led the Wolverines from 1969-89, collecting a share of 13 Big Ten championships in his 21 seasons. With a career record of 234-65-8 (he also won 40 games in six seasons at Miami of Ohio), Schembechler entered the College Football Hall of Fame in 1993, and passed away in 2006.
Full name Glenn Schembechler (Bo's real first name was actually Glenn as well), Shemy Schembechler attended Miami of Ohio before serving as assistant recruiting coordinator for the Wolverines from 1993-94.
He went on to scout for the Chiefs, Bears, Commanders, Seahawks and Raiders, for whom he worked before taking the position at Michigan. Schembechler served as president and founder of GES Advisory, which provided scouting and guidance for high schoolers seeking college scholarships.
Schembechler will look to help his new employer hold on to a 2024 recruiting class that currently ranks No. 1 nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings. Michigan is also the projected leader for Belleville, Mich., quarterback Bryce Underwood, anointed as the No. 1 overall player in the class of 2025 in the On3 rankings.
