BREAKING: Drew Hughes, college personnel expert, joining Jacksonville Jaguars

Texas wanted Drew Hughes, and the veteran, well-regarded college football personnel leader wanted to work with Steve Sarkisian and the Longhorns.

Then there was a delay due to Hughes' time more than a year ago at the University of Tennessee, and the NFL called.

Specifically, Trent Baalke, Urban Meyer and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Hughes said yes, sources confirmed Friday to FootballScoop. Hughes will have a role on the side of Baalke, the Jaguars' new general manager, in the organization.

It's been a whirlwind for Hughes, who left Tennessee more than a year ago and well before Jeremy Pruitt was fired amidst an investigation for recruiting improprieties. Hughes spent a year on Will Muschamp's South Carolina staff, had the option to remain on new coach Shane Beamer's staff but was lured away by Texas and Sarkisian.

When that move hit a snag due simply to Hughes' long-ended tenure on Rocky Top, Baalke and the Jaguars moved in to tab Hughes, who has time previously at Alabama and Florida and is seemingly universally respected by peers.
