Butch Jones will be a head coach again.
There aren't many 51 year olds who have a coaching resume as strong as Butch. Eleven seasons as an FBS head coach, 84 wins, eight bowl appearances, four conference championships, recruited at the highest level and has now spent two seasons working with and learning from Nick Saban. Off the field his players consistently earned academic honors and post exceedingly high GPA and graduation rates. Yeah, Butch Jones will be a head coach again.
Detractors will look to his final season at Tennessee and frown; but following Derek Dooley (who won six, five and four games in his three seasons at Tennessee), Jones came in and turned that program around - winning five, then seven, then nine games in back-to-back seasons. Jones led Tennessee to three consecutive bowl victories and never lost to a bowl eligible team. Yeah, Butch Jones will be a head coach again.
At Tennessee Jones' recruiting classes were consistently Top 10 or Top 20 in the country...including at the time he was let go when Tennessee had one of the top classes in the country. Yeah, Butch Jones will be a head coach again.
Detractors will say he didn't handle the media well. Well, spending two years watching Nick Saban operate will help.
Yeah, Butch Jones will be a head coach again.
