Chargers reportedly interested in Jim Harbaugh (Jim Harbaugh)

You could make a case that, regardless of what happens with NFL head coaching openings over the next several weeks, the opening the Chargers have in LA will be the most attractive opportunity.

With a young franchise quarterback in Justin Herbert and some big names for him to get the ball to coupled with Joey Bosa and a talented defense that has underperformed as of late, there will be some high profile coaches interested in the job.

One coaches that the franchise has interest in, according to a report from NFL inside Justin Schultz today, is Michigan's Jim Harbaugh.

Harbaugh has flirted with NFL openings the last several years, ultimately returning to Ann Arbor last year with a loaded roster and a widely held belief that the Wolverines could bring home a national title.

After an undefeated season where they enter the College Football as the top ranked team in the country, Harbaugh and Michigan do have multiple NCAA investigations hanging over their head that could make an opportunity like the one inLA a very intriguing exit strategy.

Jim went 44-19-1 as the head coach of the 49ers, leading the team to two first-place finishes in the NFC West and a loss to his brother and the Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII.

After that Super Bowl loss, Harbaugh led the Niners to a 12-4 season and then dipped to 8-8 in 2014 before very public friction with the front office led to the two sides parting ways.

He took over the Wolverines in 2015 and has led them to an 84-25 record and three-straight Big Ten titles.

A recent move to the window for head coaching interviews now opens after the NFL's Division Round of the playoffs, which conclude the third weekend of January, but that new rule (designed with a keen eye on tampering) applies only to candidates who are employed by other NFL clubs.

If Harbaugh and the Wolverines can beat Alabama on January 1, they will play for the winner of Texas and Washington for the national title on January 8th in Houston at NRG Stadium, meaning he could get a head start on other NFL names in the mix if it's an opportunity he really wants to pursue.

If not, it's been widely reported that he has a contract extension sitting on the table from Michigan that (likely) just needs his signature.

This will be an interesting storyline to keep an eye on, with plenty more to come.
