The folks at Rukkus have taken upon themselves the gargantuan task of mapping the hometowns of all 13,738 FBS players and were kind enough to share them with the masses.
As you can guess, mapping 13,738 players creates a metric ton of data. This map is sortable by conference and by team.
They also created a heat map of all FBS teams, which generally follows the overall population of the United States.
Every team likes to recruit as close to home as possible, but "close to home" is relative to where the players are. Case in point: Rukkus's data showed that of the 24 schools whose average recruit lives 650 miles or more away from campus, all but one -- Syracuse -- are west of the Rocky Mountains or a service academy.
