Chip Kelly has a funny answer to the difference between being a head coach and a coordinator (Chip Kelly)

In leaving his UCLA head coaching position to become Ohio State's offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly made a number of tradeoffs.

He sacrificed a $6.1 million salary for a $2 million paycheck at Ohio State, but in turn he reduced his off-field obligations by an amount far greater than the 67 percent cut to his pay.

"The opportunity to come here and just coach football and not have to do the things that a head coach is asked to do now in college football appealed to me," Kelly said back in March.

Asked again on Tuesday, Kelly had a far more literal answer.

"You can go to the bathroom between series if you have to," Kelly said.

Kelly was likely tired of answering the question he's undoubtedly been asked dozens of times now both in media sessions and in real life and opted for a humorous answer this time around.

But his playful answer does prompt a serious question: What happens if the Ohio State defense forces a turnover on first down? Kelly (and other assistants working from the press box) assuredly wait for a TV timeout before hitting the head, but what if there's a line? What if duty's call is longer than anticipated? Does he leave a short script for the next series with a trusted lieutenant just in case?
