Chris Creighton created unique interview test when hiring latest defensive line coach (Eastern Michigan)

Last night we shared that Eastern Michigan head coach Chris Creighton was adding Southeast Missouri State (FCS) defensive line coach Jerone Steckel as the Eagles new interior defensive line coach.

Exactly what that interview entailed between Steckel, Creighton and the EMU defensive staff is largely unknown, but there was some inside information shared on a recent interview of Bussin' With The Boys with Taylor Lewan and Will Compton when they had former Eastern Michigan defensive lineman, and current Raiders defensive end, Maxx Crosby on.

Crosby shares that he got a call from defensive line coach Ben Needham, who has spent the past five years in Ypsilanti on staff and is preparing to move to linebackers coach for the program.

Needham apparently brings up their interviews of new defensive line coaches and a unique tactic that Creighton is utilizing.

"Creighton started this thing in his interview process where he puts up the film of five high school players, shows them to the prospective defensive line coaches, and has them rank them."

"He'll include a defensive lineman they're trying to recruit, puts my film on there from when I was in high school, and then four other random guys.

"My old D-Line coach says every single coach ranks me at like fourth or fifth from my high school film, and I am dying laughing."

Of course, after getting their rankings, Creighton points out that one of them is Maxx Crosby and things get awkward.

For what it's worth, EMU was Crosby's only offer coming out of high school, and he went on to develop into a First-Team All MAC selection in 2017 and 2018 before being a fourth-round draft pick.

It doesn't get revealed where Steckel had Crosby ranked, but some local media should definitely throw that out there and ask when they get a chance to meet him for the first time.

Hear Crosby tell the story below.
