Cincinnati hiring coordinator from Big 12 rival (tyson veidt)

Iowa State linebackers coach Tyson Veidt will be the next defensive coordinator at Cincinnati, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.

An Ohio native, Veidt was the head coach at Bluffton High School in northwest Ohio from 2008-13 before joining Matt Campbell's Toledo staff as linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator. He moved to Iowa State with Campbell, where he remained until today.

Veidt also carried an associate head coach title at Iowa State.

Iowa State annually ranked among the top defenses in the Big 12. Seven Cyclone linebackers collected a total of 16 All-Big 12 honors in Veidt's tenure, and prior winners selected him as the 2017 FootballScoop Linebackers Coach of the Year.

Cincinnati finished last season 129th in yards per play and 102nd in scoring, surrendering an even 30 points per game. The Bearcats went 3-9 in their first season under head coach Scott Satterfield.
