According to multiple reports today, Colorado defensive coordinator Charles Kelly is heading back to the SEC.
Reports share that Kelly is leaving for a position on the defensive staff of Hugh Freeze at Auburn.
It marks a return to the SEC for Kelly, who joined Prime's staff in Boulder after a few seasons on Nick Saban's defensive staff at Alabama.
Kelly has also spent time in the SEC as the special teams coordinator at Tennessee, and also spent a few seasons calling the defense at Florida State as well.
Auburn is the alma mater of Kelly, who played defensive back for the Tigers from 1986-89, later joining the staff as a graduate assistant in the early 90s.
The move means Deion Sanders will be looking for a new defensive play caller after changing offensive coordinators in-season from Sean Lewis to Pat Shurmur. The Buffs staff will have a new-look in 2024 as they've lost a couple coaches (including Lewis) to other opportunities this off season already.
