"Coaching in the SEC West isn't for everybody" - Auburn AD pens letter to fans about Bryan Harsin hire
Bryan Harsin went 69-19 taking over for Chris Petersen at Boise State. With that kind of success, programs kicked the tires on bringing Harsin in to take over their team over the years. The answer was always, "Thanks, but no thanks."
That is, until Auburn called. Then the answer became "How can you not?" he shared with reporters.
Yesterday, Auburn athletic director Allen Greene sent out a letter to fans talking to fans about addition of Harsin and what he saw in the new head coach of the Tigers during their vetting process that helped him realize he was the right man for the job.
"He's the ultimate competitor. You have to be in this league," Greene explains.
"The opportunity to coach the SEC West isn't for everybody. It takes something and someone special to want to compete in the toughest division in college football, with a strength of schedule every year that equals or exceeds anyone's."
Greene also lays out the expectation for Auburn moving forward - consistently competing for championships.
"He believes, and I concur, that young people still want to be challenged, strained and held to a high standard. That's how he will build a program that consistently competes for championships."
