But first, a quick glance at how the Spartans finished in 2017.

2018 Changes
This offseason, Dantonio lost Harlon Barnett, who left to become the defensive coordinator for Willie Taggart at Florida State, as well as Mark Snyder, who also left for Tallahassee where he'll coach the defensive ends.
To replace Barnett and Snyder, Dantonio promoted loyal assistant and linebackers coach Mike Tressel to defensive coordinator, hired former Kent State head coach Paul Haynes to coach the defensive backs, and is also bringing Eastern Michigan defensive line coach Chuck Bullough on board as well (per recent report), as a defensive assistant in a position yet to be officially named.
Haynes had opportunities to join a number of programs this off season, including Iowa State and Cincinnati, and his experience coordinating defenses at programs like Ohio State and Arkansas will be a nice addition to the Spartans staff.
Mark Staten and Brad Salem both turned down opportunities with other programs this off season to remain in East Lansing.
Tenth Assistant
Mark Dantonio got a little creative with his tenth assistant hire, bringing back former Spartan offensive coordinator Don Treadwell. Officially, Treadwell will assist coaching the defensive backs and special teams while also helping as an offensive consultant, and he'll also hold the title of freshman head coach with the aim of supporting first-year players in their on and off-field development.
Treadwell previously coordinated the offense the first seven years Dantonio served as head coach, first in Cincinnati (2004-2006), and then in East Lansing (2007-2010) before he left to become the head coach at Miami (OH).
