The well publicized story of Connor Stalions has taken a number of interesting twists and turns over the last year or so, and it's set for another one.
Heading into the fall, the disgraced former Michigan staffer whose actions led to an NCAA investigation and the suspension of former head coach Jim Harbaugh for three games, took the defensive coordinator position at Detroit Mumford - a program of at a school of about 600 kids that has historically struggled.
Health issues, including a mild stroke to the team's head coach early in the year prompted Stalions to step in as the team's acting head coach, as he led the team to a 1-8 final record.
Now, multiple reports state that he's heading to another high school program to help out.
Belleville high school, a powerhouse program in Michigan that churns out high level college football talent annually, has brought Stalions on board for their playoff run where they're a favorite to win the state title, according to multiple reports.
A source shares that Stalions was immediately very involved in the offensive play calling upon taking the job.
Underwood has already led the program to three-straight state title appearances in the state's highest classification, where he's helped will the team to victory in two of them.
Adding another rather interesting element to this story though, is the fact that Belleville's quarterback is Bryce Underwood, a five-star recruit that is currently committed to LSU despite being in the backyard of The Big House.
Michigan's struggles at the quarterback spot have prompted in-season rumors like Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy funding an NIL deal in the $4-5 million range to either a) lure Underwood to Ann Arbor or b) attract the top quarterback talent from the transfer portal if needed.
That's just a (small) piece of the pie though, as some rumors have an NIL deal to land Underwood in Ann Arbor priced in the $10 million range.
This past Friday night hundreds of Michigan fans showed up, many of them in a Michigan-branded bus to the Belleville game for a "Keep Bryce Underwood (and teammate and UM target receiver Elijah Dotson) home" Hailgate Tailgate party. Dotson is currently committed to Pat Narduzzi and Pitt, but Michigan has been making a late push for the top-ranked quarterback's teammate.
After beating Saline HS in that playoff game Friday night, Underwood was on campus at LSU for their game against Alabama on Saturday, where the Tigers lost 42-13.
Surely, a former Michigan staffer with a well known and elaborately written Michigan Manifesto landing in Belleville for a playoff run as Michigan continues the push for the talented in-state product can't be a coincidence, right?
Over the next several weeks, this was already an interesting storyline that many have been monitoring, but Stalions landing on the staff has certainly added some additional intrigue.
