Craig Bohl announces his retirement at Wyoming, new head coach already in place (Craig Bohl)

After a decade leading the Cowboys, Craig Bohl has announced that the Arizona Bowl will be his final time on the sideline.

Multiple reports share that Bohl is a leading candidate to become the next AFCA executive director.

Bohl ends a ten-year run at Wyoming, the longest of any coach in school history.

The 65-year old went 60-60 with the Cowboys, including bowl trips in four of the last five seasons.

He took the job at Wyoming after leading North Dakota State to three straight FCS national titles, which ended up being the start of an unprecedented dynasty for the program.

In Fargo, he compiled a 104-32 mark leading the Bison.

With one game left to coach, Bohl has went 163-92 as a head coach.

Before landing the NDSU job, Bohl was a longtime assistant at Nebraska, coaching the linebackers from 1995-99 before taking on defensive coordinator duties from 2000-02. 

He also called defenses at Duke and Rice earlier in his career.

In a career spanning five decades, Bohl has coached at a total of jus six schools (Nebraska, NDSU, Tulsa, Wisconsin, Rice, and Duke).

The program moved swiftly in announcing defensive coordinator / safeties coach Jay Sawvel as the new head coach.

Sawvel is a thirty year veteran of the college coaching profession and spent the past four seasons on staff with Bohl. He previously was the defensive coordinator at Minnesota and Wake Forest. 

They will play Toledo in the Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl December 30th.
