Arguably the best story in college football this fall has been Curt Cignetti's 10-0 start to his first season leading the Indiana program.
Now, the Hoosiers have found a way to hold onto their guy for the forseeable future.
According to multiple reports this morning, Cignetti and the school have agreed to terms on a new contract.
The school has since confirmed the news.
The new deal, which aims to keep him in Bloomington through 2032, is set to double Cignetti's salary and also provide a significant increase to the salary pool for the Hoosiers staff.
The deal averages $8 million per year with a $1 million retention bonus every year, bringing the total to eight-years and $72 million.
When he was hired back in December away after a successful run at James Madison, Cignettis inked a six-year $27 million deal that was set to run through 2029.
The $4 million annually Indiana was paying him was a significant raise from the $550k he was making in his final season at James Madison.
Doubling that salary will take him from the third-lowest paid coach in the Big Ten (with David Braun's salary figure at Northwestern unreported), just a bit more than Jedd Fisch at Washington ($7.7 million) and Luke Fickell at Wisconsin ($7.725 million) and just south of the ball park that Oregon is paying Dan Lanning ($8.2 million) and Penn State is paying James Franklin ($8.5 million).
