NCAA Division III football power University of the Redlands is streamlining a plan to secure the future of its head coaching position on the gridiron.
Sources have told FootballScoop that Redlands has a succession roadmap to transition from longtime head coach Mike Maynard to offensive coordinator and head of recruiting, Jim Good, after the spring 2021 season.
Maynard's run atop the Bulldogs has spanned more than a quarter-century and more than 200 wins, with the most recently completed 2019 season including another postseason berth for Redlands. The Bulldogs lost on the road to Mary Hardin-Baylor in the opening round of the DIII Playoffs.
But it's been success โ remarkably consistent winning since Maynard first took over in the late-1980s and captured his first conference title by 1990.
The Bulldogs own first- or second-place finishes in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play a whopping 26 of 32 times going into their pandemic-delayed 2021 season.
SCIAC teams did not compete in any sports in the fall of this year.
In Good, on staff at Redlands now for the past decade, the Bulldogs have positioned themselves for a seamless transfer of coaching responsibilities. Only once since Good's arrival has Redlands failed to record at least six wins.
A Linfield grad with a masters from Oregon State, Good has previous stops at both Illinois College and Texas Lutheran.
Sources tell FootballScoop the staff is expected to remain intact.
