Dabo and Clemson add a veteran NFL evaluator to staff (Clemson)

Dabo Swinney and Clemson are pulling a member of Jim Harbaugh's Chargers staff east for a key position on staff to help them keep up with the changes in college football around roster building and player development.

Kevin Kelly, a noted talent evaluator with over two decades of experience in the NFL, has joined the Tigers program as director of player development and acquisition.

Kelly was entering his second season as a senior scouting executive with the Chargers, and prior to that had served a decade with the organization as senior director of college scouting.

He signed a two-year deal worth $360,000 annually, per multiple reports.

Notable names he helped to evaluate and bring to the franchise are Joey Bosa, Justin Herbert and Derwin James.

His stops in the NFL include with the Browns and Colts as an area scout before a season with the Jets followed by the move to LA.

A former college linebacker that was part of the 1983 Miami national championship team, Kelly finished his playing career at Indiana before starting his journey at the small college level with stops at a number of Division III programs including John Carroll (D-III - OH), Lake Forest College (D-III - IL), and Case Western Reserve (D-III - OH) in addition to a handful of seasons as a high school head coach at St. Viator (IL).
