Deion Sanders isn't sports famous, he's real-world famous.
His celebrity has drawn record television ratings, as well as interest from hallmarks of the traditional media world: 60 Minutes, Time magazine and, on Saturday night, Saturday Night Live.
In the Season 49 premier, "Coach Prime" made an appearance at the "Weekend Update" desk to run through Colorado's season thus far. Who would've thought a year ago that a Friday night loss to Stanford would become fodder for the top comedy institution in American culture?
"My team has it all, man," Sanders, played by Kenan Thompson, says. "Coaching, genius. Offense, explosive. Defense, trying."
All in all I thought it was a good segment, and yet another reminder of Coach Prime's actual fame. What other active college football coach was once a musical guest on SNL?
The answer, of course, is none, although it would be fun to see the musical stylings of Bret Bielema now that we think about it.
