Back in January, Derek Mason announced that he would be taking a "sabbatical" after one season in Stillwater as Mike Gundy's defensive coordinator.
Now we know what he will be doing in his time without a whistle.
Mason will be an analyst on the SEC Network this fall, as he recently inked a deal with ESPN, the network announced today.
Before his one-season stints at both Oklahoma State and Auburn, Mason served as the head coach at Vanderbilt for just under seven seasons.
He went 27-55 leading the Commodores, and led the program to 6-7 finishes and bowl games in both 2016 and 2018.
In 2020, he was dismissed following an 0-8 start to the season.
Before landing the Vandy job, Mason was a standout defensive coordinator at Stanford, and has previous stops in the NFL with the Vikings, as well as stops on the offensive side of the ball at Ohio, New Mexico State, Utah, Idaho State, and Weber State.
Mason will be joined in the booth by former SEC head coach Dan Mullen, who enters his second season as an analyst for the network and made a smooth transition to the booth and ESPN set last year.
