With Eddie George now officially on board at Tennessee State as they look to follow the Jackson State model of hiring a celebrity coach, The Tennessean was able to get their hands on some of the contract specifics for the new leader of the Tigers.
For starters, George has inked five-year deal that is worth $400,000 annually to lead the program.
His incentive package is capped at $100k and includes bonus opportunities for winning the Ohio Valley Conference Title ($20k), FCS playoff wins ($15k for each one), FCS national championship ($35k), and $15k for each coach of the year award he were to earn. George also has some academic incentives worked in for reaching specific APR scores as well.
As for his staff, George has a few hires lined up including finalizing a deal with former NFL head coach Hue Jackson (per our sources), and on the defensive side of the ball NFL Hall of Famer Rod Woodson has been an early target.
George will have the ability to add five assistants on offense, four on defense and a special teams coordinator as well as a number of support staff. As we've previously reported, one of those support staff positions is a senior advisor role that Jeff Fisher is expected fill for George.
With a lot of key positions still open on staff, it will be really interesting to see the veteran coaching presences that George will fill his staff with considering he has no formal coaching experience.
As for buyout figures, the amount George would owe if he were to leave for another coaching opportunity were not disclosed.
