Brent Dearmon completes first North Alabama staff with established FCS assistant (De'Von Lockett)

Brent Dearmon on Tuesday completed his first full staff as North Alabama's head coach, hiring De'Von Lockett as defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator.

Lockett joins the team after serving as the assistant head coach and cornerbacks coach at Northwestern State.

"We hit a home run with De'Von Lockett. He brings over 15 years of FCS coaching experience with DBs, he has held the assistant head coach title, and is an awesome person," said Dearmon. "We are excited to have his amazing wife and kids join us as well."

Lockett replaces Marc St. Felix, who accepted an analyst position at Miami last month.

Lockett coached All-Southland defensive backs in each of his past four seasons, as well as two All-Americans.

"Me and my family are blessed and thankful for the opportunity to join Coach Dearmon and his staff," said Lockett. "I've known Coach Dearmon since his junior season in college and I've kept track of his success at every level. I'm excited about coming to UNA and bringing in open ideas to the defensive staff to not only be competitive but have success. Looking forward to a great year."

With Lockett aboard, here is the full North Alabama staff heading into the 2023 campaign.

Brent Dearmon: head coach
Brock Caraboa: defensive coordinator
Kevin Wewers: offensive coordinator/tight ends

The Lions joined FCS full-time in 2019 and are still in search of their first winning season. The club went 1-10 in 2022, defeating only Division II UVa-Wise.
