The Division II playoff bracket was released this evening, where a few things are worth pointing out following our Division II snapshot a few days back.
The four teams that earned a first-round bye were Notre Dame (OH), Ouachita Baptist, Valdosta State, and MSU-Mankato.
In what was a battle for not only a conference title, but also the top seed in their region, Valdosta State beat West Georgia in a shootout 47-31. Valdosta State was rewarded with the 1 seed, while West Georgia settled for #2 in a region where the two very well may meet again in a few weeks for a rematch.
Ferris State finished the season ranked #2 nationally, but the selection committee noted some concerns after Ferris State self-reported an issue in handling a complex transfer situation where the school declared the kid eligible as a result of a misinterpreted rule. Therefore, Oauchita Baptist - who the Bulldogs beat seasons 24-19 in the first round - was awarded the top seed in the Super Region.
Last year, Texas A&M Commerce beat West Florida 37-27 in a match up between a five-seed and a six-seed, which should serve as some extra motivation as far as parity goes this time around.
