Error Code: NCAA blocks Oklahoma State helmets (Oklahoma State QR Codes)

Two weeks of headlines have been usurped by a last-minute NCAA ruling.

Oklahoma State on Saturday announced that the NCAA had thwarted its plans to place QR codes on the backs of the Cowboys's helmets.

Mike Gundy had told local media and in a lengthy interview with ESPN's Pat McAfee that the QR codes on the backs of helmets were intended to allow fans the opportunity to contribute directly to players or to the Pokes's football program.

The NCAA said not so fast.

"The NCAA is blocking Oklahoma State from adding a sticker to football helmets with a QR code linking fans to the general team fund for every student-athlete on the roster.

"Oklahoma State interprets the QR code stickers as institutional decals permitted under NCAA bylaws. The NCAA interprets the QR code stickers as advertising and/or commercial marks, which are not permitted."

Oklahoma State leadership made clear in the school's statement that they strongly disagree with the last-minute NCAA decision.

"We disagree with the interpretation of the rule but will abide by it and work with the appropriate groups to lead on the needed change," said Oklahoma State Athletics Director Chad Weiberg in the school's statement. "Our people came up with an innovative concept to raise the NIL value of our student-athletes, but ultimately it just serves as the latest example of how college sports are evolving at a faster pace than the rule book."
