FCS coach suspended for allegedly hitting a player on the helmet during practice (Randy Sanders)

This morning, East Tennessee State (FCS) announced that head coach Randy Sanders was being suspended with pay while the school conducted an "investigation of potential violation of university policy."

Sanders, who spent the past several seasons working under Jimbo Fisher at Florida State as the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, was hired to take over the ETSU program back on December 17th, following the retirement of Carl Torbush.

According to the Johnson City Press, Sanders allegedly hit a freshman defensive back in the helmet after the player didn't take a knee during a drill on Friday. Sanders coached the team's scrimmage on Saturday and word of his suspension came Monday morning.

Sanders will serve his suspension until the formal disciplinary investigation concludes, the article points out.

Only those there and those who saw what happened know the full extent of what transpired, but it's important that as a coaching community we're aware of events like this, and the events that follow.

This Thursday, ETSU will host their spring game without their head coach as well as offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield, who we reported earlier today would be reuniting at Baylor with Matt Rhule in an off the field role. Satterfield previously worked under Rhule at Temple as his offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
