FCS head coach reportedly emerges as favorite at Rice (Tony Reno)

Mike Craven of Dave Campbell's Texas Football shares this morning that a favorite has emerged at Rice.

Last week, we outlined a number of coaches involved, along with DCTF that included Tim Albin (Ohio HC), Tim Beck (Vandy OC) and KC Keeler (Sam Houston State HC).

Yale head coach Tony Reno, who led the Bulldogs to an Ivy League title this past fall, has recently surfaced as a favorite to replace Mike Bloomgren with the Owls, DCTF shares.

Reno took over at Yale in 2012 after decades in Ivy League coaching circles.

He has led the Bulldogs to four conference titles during that span, including this fall with a 7-2 mark as well as 2022.

A native of the east coast with a Massachusetts background, the former Division III defensive back at Worcester State has coached at both Yale and Harvard.

At Rice, he would take over a program that went 24-52 in just under seven seasons under former Stanford offensive coordinator Mike Bloomgren.

Bloomgren led the Owls to bowl games in 2022 and 2023, but never finished with a winning record and was let go after a 2-6 start this fall.
