FCS head coach takes voluntary pay cut due to coronavirus (coronavirus)

The coronavirus pandemic is just beginning to claim its reckoning on budgets across college sports, but one consequence we've already seen is pay cuts for coaches and administrators. Iowa State was the first, followed by Louisville, along with the conferences offices of the Pac-12 and Big 12.

Over the weekend, we got a first: A coach stepping forward to slash his own pay. And he's at the FCS level.

Eastern Washington head coach Aaron Best tweeted that he will take an indefinite 10 percent pay cut "to better welfare of our university, dept, FB program and SAs."

Best, 26-12 with a trip to the 2018 FCS title game in three seasons as the Eagles head coach, was set to earn a $217,000 salary in 2020, according to the Spokesman-Review. He is EWU's highest-paid athletics department employee.
