Finalists set for inaugural version of JuCo Heisman

The first Walter Jones Trophy winner will be announced Monday.

The finalists are set for the inaugural Walter Jones Award, the JuCo answer to the Heisman.

The finalists are Iowa Western defensive end Jackson Filer, Jones County running back Robert Henry, and Hutchinson quarterback Dylan Laible.

Created and run by JUCOWeekly, the Walter Jones Trophy honors the former Holmes (Miss.) Community College product who would one day become a member of the NFL's 100th Anniversary All-Time team, among other honors.

While FootballScoop does not have a vested interest in any of the three candidates, it would be quite a statement for this award, named after an offensive lineman, to set itself apart from other player-of-the-year awards by honoring a defensive end.

The inaugural Jones Trophy will be awarded Monday in Orlando.
