First Mountain West game canceled (coronavirus)

The Mountain West has yet to play a game this season, but already one game has been postponed.

Four days ahead of the conference's 2020 kickoff, Colorado State and New Mexico have postponed their game, scheduled for Saturday in Fort Collins.

With the conference waiting until Oct. 24 to begin its season, its eight games in eight weeks schedule rendered playing make-up games impossible.

New Mexico cited an increase in cases in the Albuquerque community as a reason for canceling the game. The Lobos had not held a practice in a week, and state regulations limited them from gathering in groups of more than five. Colorado State was also dealing with multiple players being out due to COVID issues and lingering air quality issues from wildfires.

β€œI believe we could play, but with the restrictions and what’s happening around us, it makes it difficult to do so," said New Mexico AD Eddie Nunez.
