Today, following the announcement by the Big 10, officials at the White House shared the president’s thoughts on the return of football and that he had a role in the decision by the Big Ten to return.

According to White House officials as many as 300 calls between Big Ten league officials, student-athletes, coaches and the White House. Officials went on to say, “the president is honored and humbled that he was able to make a difference in this and is excited these players can pursue their dreams”.

Trump also followed up with this tweet:

In contrast, NBC reported that one Big Ten President said, ‚ÄúPresident Trump had nothing to do with our decision and did not impact the deliberations. In fact, when his name came up, it was a negative because no one wanted this to be political”.

A White House official added that while the President hasn’t reached out to other conferences, he wants “everybody to reopen. It’s not just about the Big Ten. He’s willing to provide resources to anybody reconsidering to play football. … This is not a political thing.” – via Ross Dellenger
