Former NFL head coach Ken Whisenhunt is expected to join Alabama's off-field staff, according to a report Wednesday from Matt Zenitz of On3.
Whisenhunt, 60, spent 2007-12 as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals and 2014-15 in the same role with the Tennessee Titans. He won two division titles in his eight seasons as a head coach. Prior to that, he won a Super Bowl as the Pittsburgh Steelers' offensive coordinator.
Before one raves about the pull of Saban's army of overqualified analysts, consider that Whisenhunt spent the past two seasons as an offensive analyst at Penn State. He's also the father-in-law of former LSU quarterback and current Alabama analyst Zach Mettenberger.
Whisenhunt played eight seasons for the Atlanta Falcons, Washington Redskins and New York Jets in the late 1980s and early '90s as a 12th round pick out of Georgia Tech. He coached two seasons at Vanderbilt before joining the Baltimore Ravens as tight ends coach in 1997, and remained at the NFL level through 2019.
