Former IMG Academy head coach Kevin Wright is returning to Carmel (Ind.) High School as head coach, the school announced Tuesday.
Wright went 54-11 as Carmel's head coach from 2010-14, leading the program to an IHSAA Class 5A championship in 2011 and runner-up finishes in 2013 and '14.
“IMG is a unique situation,” Wright said in 2015. “I don’t know if there's another job like it in the country. But leaving Carmel is tough. It’s been such a great journey the last five years.”
Wright went 44-2 leading the Ascenders before joining former Indiana head coach Tom Allen's staff as tight ends coach. After that staff was let go, Wright spent the 2024 campaign on his father Bud's staff at Sheridan High School in the Hoosier state, according to the Indianapolis Star.
Wright will replace the man who replaced him. John Herbert went 82-39 with Class 6A championships in 2016 and 2019 in his 10 seasons in between Wright's stints.
“Kevin has a big heart for Carmel and Hamilton County,” Carmel athletic director Jim Inskeep said, via the Star. “He's a great fit for what we do here. He has high expectations and goals that align with ours.”
Speaking of expectations, Carmel is a one high school town in a city of nearly 100,000 directly north of Indianapolis. The Carmel High School campus is the most opulent I've ever seen.
The Greyhounds went just 3-7 in 2024, according to MaxPreps.
