Former NFL star DeSean Jackson lands FCS head coaching opportunity (Delaware State)

Just last week, former NFL star Michael Vick was announced as the new head coach at Norfolk State (FCS), where he will take over a program in the shadow of where he grew up and starred in high school.

Now another former NFL standout, and former teammate of Vick, is reportedly set to follow suit, according to Jeff Lightsy.

Veteran NFL receiver DeSean Jackson, who starred on the Philadelphia Eagles roster as a young receiver from 2008-13, is set to become the next head coach at Delaware State (FCS), Lightsy shares.

Jackson, who is 38, does bring some coaching experience to the role, as he spent this past fall as the offensive coordinator at Woodrow Wilson HS (Long Beach, CA).

In addition to his time playing in Philadelphia, Jackson would go on to play for the Redskins, Bucs, Eagles (again), and spent short stints of a year or less with the Rams, Raiders and Ravens before ending his career.

Jackson was a three-time Pro Bowl selection in his first six seasons in the league. He played his last down in the NFL in 2022 before signing a one-day contract in Philly to formally retire as a member of the Eagles back in November 2023.

The product of west coast national power Long Beach Poly, Jackson went on to star at Cal where he developed into a steal of a second-round pick. An electric player every time he touched the ball, he still holds NFL records for most career touchdowns of 60+ yards with 26, and also most career touchdowns of 80+ (five).

Ironically, if this comes to fruition, Vick and Jackson will face off against each other as MEAC foes this fall.

At Delaware State, Jackson inherits a program that has struggled to the tune of 2-21 under former head coach Lee Hull.
