Yesterday marked the first day of the new NCAA rule on social media that allowed coaches to retweet and repost material from recruits, and for those wondering how coaches were reacting to rule change after day 1, we have some interesting numbers to share.
Late last night I saw this screen grab illustrating which SEC coaches went all in on the new rule, and I was surprised to see that just four SEC coaches (Dan Mullen, Will Muschamp, Les Miles and Butch Jones) took part on day one.
Then I noticed the numbers next to the name, and one coach in particular stood out.
That's right - Butch Jones retweeted recruits 108 times, which is nearly 10 times the number of the next closest coach in the SEC.
Bret Bielema, Gus Malzahn, Jim McElwain, Kirby Smart, Mark Stoops, Barry Odom, Hugh Freeze, Kevin Sumlin, and Derek Mason were all the SEC head coaches who did not partake by the time these were tallied up, but also keep in mind that this was just the first day it was legal. Nick Saban doesn't have Twitter, so his number was obviously zero as well.
108 RTs of recruits in a single day is an insane number, and you have to wonder if this new rule is something that recruits are really going to respond to. If it is, Butch Jones has a helluva head start on the rest of the SEC.
According to Eleven Warriors, just six Big Ten coaches took part, with Pat Fitzgerald leading the way with 17.
