Frank Solich working on extension at Ohio
At 75, Frank Solich is the oldest active FBS head coach -- and oldest by a wide margin. San Diego State's Rocky Long is the next-oldest, at 69.
Solich's contract also expires on Jan. 3, but that doesn't mean he's at the end of his career.
He's been in talks with Ohio to extend his contract beyond this season, he told the Athens Post.
“There have been discussions,“ Solich said. “(The details) will eventually come out, and you can obviously go from there.”
Solich has been the Bobcats' head coach since 2005, a year after he was let go for the sin of going 58-19 at Nebraska. In nearly 15 complete seasons, Solich has led Ohio to a 110-81 record with 10 bowl trips and at least a share of four MAC East titles. The Bobcats need wins over Bowling Green and Akron to avoid the program's first losing season since 2008.
A former Nebraska fullback, Solich has been in coaching for more than half a century, dating back to a head coaching run at Omaha's Holy Name High School in 1966.
