Former Gamecocks assistant lands coordinator job at South Carolina prep power (GA Mangus)

Former South Carolina assistant coach GA Mangus is expected to be the offensive coordinator at Columbia's Hammond School, according to a report Thursday from The State. The school is expected to announce the move today.

Hammond School has won six consecutive SCISA state championships. In 2022, the Skyhawks pummeled Laurence Manning Academy 52-0 to win the school's first title at the Class 4A level. Overall, Hammond has won a state championship in 14 of the last 17 seasons.

Mangus spent seven seasons on Steve Spurrier's South Carolina staffs, coaching quarterbacks and tight ends while also serving as offensive coordinator for Spurrier's final season of 2015.

Following his stint at the state's flagship institution, Mangus spent the 2016 campaign at South Carolina State and 2017-19 as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks and tight ends coach at Kutztown University, a Division II school in Pennsylvania.

Mangus comes to Hammond from Heathwood Hall, a nearby private school in Columbia.

The former Florida quarterback spent four seasons as the head coach at Delaware Valley College and also coordinated the offense at Middle Tennessee prior to joining Spurrier in Columbia.
