Look through the staff at Georgia Tech that Geoff Collins put together upon leaving Temple for Atlanta and one thing sticks out - there are a handful of former well known Georgia Tech players that came back to be a part of what Collins wants to build with the Jackets.
That was by design, as Collins points out in an article on RamblinWreck.com.
Among the coaches who are former players on staff are offensive line coach Brent Key (who left Alabama to return to his roots in Atlanta), defensive ends / outside linebackers coach Marco Coleman, running backs coach / offensive recruiting coordinator Tashard Choice, and co-defensive coordinator / safeties coach Nathan Burton.
“We wanted to make sure we re-energized, re-engaged our former student-athletes, the legends that played here. We wanted to bring them back into the family. Being a lifelong Georgia Tech fan, I knew how important that was."
"I tried to hire somebody from every generation of Georgia Tech football. All of those moves were intentional, so everybody would have somebody that they could connect with.”
His new staff at Georgia Tech is a nice mix of guys he brought with him at Temple, or worked with at other stops, and guys that have roots with the Yellow Jackets and a unique sense of pride for their alma mater.
