Kirby Smart broke the University of Georgia's four-decade national title drought and has elevated the program to arguably stand alone in college football.

Now, Georgia's athletics board is making sure Smart also stands alone in the sport -- as its highest-paid coach.

On Thursday, school officials formally approved a raise and extension to Smart's contract atop the Bulldogs program. The new deal includes a raise of $1.75 million per season and now thrusts Smart atop the coaching salary leaderboard at $13 million.

In becoming college football's first-ever $13 million coach, he also zoomed past the $12 million mark -- which also had not previously been awarded in the marketplace. He's also locked down at Georgia for the next decade through 2033.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney previously was the sport's highest-paid coach at $11.5 million, per public records.

Smart's deal Thursday was approved in Georgia's annual athletics board meeting and shared publicly.

Since taking over at his alma mater prior to the 2016 season, Smart since has guided the Bulldogs to six seasons of 11 or more wins since 2017, a trio of College Football Playoff appearances, two CFP titles and an overall 94-16 slate.

Georgia's 86-11 mark since 2017 is the best in Power 4.

In addition to rewarding Smart, Georgia officials also extended the contract and raised the salary of athletics director Josh Brooks.

The athletics board also pushed Brooks' deal through the end of this decade and increased his salary to $1.275 million in the coming year, with guaranteed raises of $100,000 each subsequent year.

Both Brooks and Smart also have myriad bonus compensation opportunities in their respective contracts that could help Smart earn an additional seven figures while Brooks also can garner six-figure bonus payments pending various athletics and academic performances.
