Georgia State made waves last March when they announced the addition of veteran offensive coordinator Jim Chaney to the Panthers staff under Del McGee.
However, a report shares today that the veteran coordinator with stops at Georgia, Tennessee, Arkansas, Pitt and Purdue is stepping away from the role.
CBS Sports shares that Chaney is stepping away from his duties as play caller and will transition to an analyst role, citing family reasons for the move.
The report adds that former NFL head coach Hue Jackson, who had been on staff already as an analyst, will step into the role.
Jackson joined the staff of Del McGee last year after a two-year stint as the head coach at Grambling State (FCS) where he went 8-14.
He brings NFL head coaching experience to the new role, serving as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders for a season before he spent about two-and-a-half seasons leading the Browns. He left those two stints with an 11-44 record as a head coach in the league.
McGee drew widespread acclaim for the staff he put together in his first FBS head coaching opportunity, and now he's able to slide an NFL veteran play caller in for a college veteran play caller.
