Georgia Tech athletics director Mike Bobinski is now Purdue athletics director Mike Bobinski.
The Boilers announced the hire Tuesday morning. He'll replace Morgan Burke, who announced in February plans to retire next July. That timeline will likely accelerate now that Bobinski is in place.
The move is a return to Big Ten country for Bobinski; he served as Xavier's athletics director before leaving for Georgia Tech.
Bobinski's first major decision will likely regard the future of head football coach Darrell Hazell. Hazell is 6-30 in three seasons since arriving in West Lafayette before the 2013 season. The Boilers are in the midst of a major investment to their football facilities.
Bobinski is the second athletics director to leave the ACC for the Big Ten in the past three months. Mark Coyle departed Syracuse for Minnesota in late May.
