Georgia Tech coordinator Ricky Brumfield no longer with the team

A few days after associate head coach Ricky Brumfield did not make the trip for the team's game against Virginia Tech, the program has announced that the veteran coach is no longer with the program.

Brumfield also coached the team's corners.

Asked why Brumfield was absent on their trip Blacksburg to take on the Hokies, head coach Brent Key offered no specifics when asked twice other than he didn't make the trip.

Part of Key's initial staff when he took over the job, Brumfield was hired in February of 2023. Back in September he inked a contract extension taking him through 2026 that included a significant pay raise as well.

After initially making $300k annually, Brumfield's new deal was set to pay him $425k a year and gave him the associate head coach role in addition to working with the corners.

The veteran coordinator with well over two decades of experience has also called the special teams shots at FIU, Virginia, UTSA, and Western Kentucky in addition to small college stops.

Tim Salem, who had been serving as a senior advisor, will step in to coordinate the special teams. He has nearly 40 years as a college coach under his belt, and spent the last nine seasons at ACC rival Pitt.

Salem previously spent time working with Brent Key at UCF, where the two were both assistants and Salem coordinated their special teams for a few seasons in addition to coaching nearly every offensive position for the Knights over eight years.
