Coaching salaries typically move in one direction -- up -- but Nebraska will pay Scott Frost's staff less in 2020 than it did in 2019.
Which couldn't necessarily come as a surprise after a season that began in the AP Top 25 ended at 5-7.
No individual coach will take a pay cut; the slight drop (1 percent) is due to losing two assistants and replacing them with lower-salaried coaches. Offensive coordinator/wide receivers coach Troy Walters and his $700,000 salary was not retained and replaced by Matt Lubick, who signed a 2-year contract at $500,000 per year.
After losing JoVan Dewitt to North Carolina, Frost re-hired Mike Dawson -- Nebraska's defensive line coach in 2018 -- as outside linebackers coach. That moved provided $125,000 in savings for Nebraska.
Those savings will be short lived, though. Dawson's salary will jump to $500,000 in 2021 and $550,000 in 2022 as part of a 3-year contract he signed to leave the New York Giants.
Strength coach Zach Duval earns $400,000 per year, 14th most in the nation.
