His team 1-0, Lane Kiffin trolls winless Brian Kelly (Coke Zero)

Another day, another reason for college football fans to keep October 12 circled on their calendars.

Specifically, Lane Kiffin and No. 6 Ole Miss against Brian Kelly, winless and suddenly No. 18-ranked LSU in Death Valley.

Kiffin on Tuesday added another digital salvo to the burgeoning rivalry that centers around ... Coca-Cola.

Kiffin teased Kelly on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that perhaps Kelly just needed a Coca-Cola Zero and a smile in a retweet that showed Kelly angrily smashing the press conference table Sunday night.

Naturally, Kiffin made it official with the post when he tagged the Coke Zero account and also ended his post with #LoveCoke.

The mild war or words stems from Kiffin first lamenting at his press conference dais two weeks ago about the sugar content and high-calorie count from a single bottle of Coca-Cola.

A day later, Kelly responded with his own trolling of Kiffin when he opened his LSU press conference with praise for Coca-Cola and its Smart Water beverage.

Honestly, it's all been gloriously free marketing for Coca-Cola and its various beverages.

The same cannot be said for Kelly and the Tigers, who blew a late-game lead in a 27-20 loss to USC.

That setback marked Kelly's third-straight season-opening loss at LSU, and the Tigers still have games against four ranked opponents as well as trips to Arkansas and South Carolina, among other SEC tilts.

Kiffin, meanwhile, directed goodwill toward a former employer Tuesday online.

After someone tagged him with a video of the Chicago Cubs' Double A baseball affiliate, the Tennessee Smokies, hosting a contest that allowed fans to chuck mustard bottles at a skeleton affixed with Kiffin's image, Kiffin chimed in with a great throw, good luck message to Vols football.
