Mere days after videos surfaced that showcased coaches with questionable-to-violent and inappropriate conduct towards players on the Hoover High School (Alabama) practice field, those coaches have resigned.
First-year Hoover head coach Drew Gilmer, hired last January to run the program, and his defensive coordinator, Adam Helms, both resigned their posts Thursday, the Hoover City Schools System announced.
Hoover City Schools had an emergency, special called meeting Thursday for its board of education, and it was from that meeting that the system announced it had accepted the resignations.
Per Birmingham-area TV reporter Jonathan Hardison, Hoover City Schools Superintendent Dr. Kevin Maddox said:
"The past few days have been extremely unsettling for many of our varsity players, coaches and the overall Hoover Community. The safety and well-being of our students and staff continue to be our top priorities.
"We maintain high expectations for our employees and students. At this time, our focus is dedicated to supporting our football players and [remaining] coaching staff."
It was Maddox who earlier this week announced both coaches had been placed on indefinitely leave amidst an internal probe into allegations of inappropriate actions from members of the Hoover coaching staff.
