Hurricane Milton postpones Valpo-Stetson game; other updates

Milton is expected to make landfall on Wednesday.

Stetson's scheduled home game against Valparaiso has been postponed due to the expected landing of Hurricane Milton, the school announced Tuesday.

Stetson, an FCS school, is located in DeLand, Fla., located northeast of Orlando and less than 30 miles from Florida's Atlantic Coast. Milton is expected to hit Florida's gulf coast first, indicating the severity of the storm. Stetson will close its entire campus from Tuesday afternoon through Thursday.

The Valpo game was to be Stetson's home opener for Pioneer Football League play. The two schools and the conference will work toward rescheduling for a to-be-determined date.

"We appreciate Valparaiso University and the Pioneer Football League for working with us as we plan for Hurricane Milton," said Stetson AD Ricky Ray. "In addition to the concerns for our campus community, we also recognize our partners at the City of DeLand will be working diligently on hurricane response and hosting a game at Spec Martin Stadium is not feasible."

Elsewhere, the American Athletic Conference announced Friday's Memphis-South Florida game scheduled to be played in Tampa has been moved "for now" to 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday. "We will assess the conditions (and) overall situation after the storm has passed to determine if any further adjustments are necessary," South Florida said.

As the storm approaches, more games are certain to be affected. Stay tuned to The Scoop for the latest.
