Penn State hires Pennsylvania coaching legend as director of high school relations (Bob Palko)

Penn State is hiring one of the top high school coaches in Pennsylvania history to its staff.

Bob Palko is joining the Nittany Lions as director of high school relations, according to multiple reports in Pennsylvania.

The father of former Pitt and NFL quarterback Tyler Palko, Bob Palko built a dynasty at West Allegheny. From 1995-2018, Palko went 217-70 with eight WPIAL championships and three PIAA titles.

He accepted the Mount Lebanon job in 2019 and went 31-14 in his four seasons there. His 2021 team went 15-0 with a 47-7 win in the WPIAL championship and a 35-17 win in the state championship game. The championship was the school's first WPIAL title since 2000 and its first state title ever.

Palko announced his retirement from coaching in January.

“I’ve got some personal health issues I need to deal with,” he said at the time. “It’s nothing like I’m going to die, but there are things I need to take care of. And I have some family things I need to get in order as well.”
