Jay Norvell says two SEC programs and a Big 12 team tampered with star Rams players (Colorado State)

Depending on which side of the fence you're on, the transfer portal has either been one of the best things to happen to college football or the absolute biggest headache.

Many Group of Five programs find themselves in a precarious spot. On one hand they're able to utilize the portal to land the type of recruit that either hasn't got the type of playing time they expected at the Power Four level, a rising FCS talent, or maybe a kid that just wants to get closer to home and play. On the flip side of that coin they've got to battle to keep their star players around as other programs find creative ways to let them know of their interest in the event they were to hit the portal.

Group of Five coaches have been shouting from the mountaintops about tampering since the introduction of the portal, but for reasons you'll have to use your imagination on, none of those claims have been able to be substantiated. Even if they were presented solid evidence, the reality is it would take the NCAA at least three years to conduct an investigation and come to a conclusion - based on the organization's history.

At Mountain West media day, Jay Norvell shared an conversation he had with Rams star quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi, who threw for over 3,600 yards last season on the topic of tampering.

Norvell says that Fowler-Nicolosi shared with him that someone at Kansas State offered him $600k to enter the portal after they lost quarterback Will Howard in the portal to Ohio State.

"If you have enough evidence, you can prove it, but a smoking gun is a smoking gun."

"He said a guy at Kansas State called and offered him $600,000 because they lost their quarterback if he got into the portal. I'm not accusing Kansas State of anything, I'm just telling you what I the kid told me."

"So if they don't want their name thrown in it, then they should probably get a handle on their people., but there's a lot of that going on in college football and that's just the way things are right now."

Norvell also shared uthat SEC programs Ole Miss and Texas A&M have tried to entice players on his roster to enter the portal as well.
