Jeff Lebby addresses bringing Art Briles on field in Oklahoma postgame (Art Briles)

Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby addressed bringing Art Briles, his father-in-law, on the field following the Sooners' Saturday night win over SMU during OU's weekly press conference on Monday.

"Regarding my father-in-law, his presence at the game Saturday night, I've just got a statement for y'all that I'll read. One, just want everyone to understand, my father-in-law, his presence on the field is something that created a distraction and I apologize for that. That was not the intent at all. The intent was just to celebrate with my family. I do want to correct some reports that said he had a sideline pass, he did not have a sideline pass given out. He was only on the field when other families were down there and were present. Joe Castiglione, Coach Venables have both expressed concerns with me, talked to me about it to make sure that everyone understands that this is something that will not come up again."

Lebby's Monday morning statement struck a different tone than when asked after the game Saturday.

“That’s my father-in-law,” Lebby said then. “He’s my father-in-law. That’s the grandfather to my two kids. So he was down with our entire family after the game, well after the game.”

“I was just as disappointed as many of our fans when I learned of the postgame situation tonight. It shouldn’t have happened and it was my expectation it never would, based on boundaries we previously set," Oklahoma athletics director Joe Castiglione said after the game. "I’ve addressed it with the appropriate staff.”

No. 18 Oklahoma visits Tulsa on Saturday (3:30 p.m. ET, ESPN2).
