Jerry Glanville has last coached college football over a decade ago as the head coach at Portland State (FCS - OR).
Now, at 82 years old, the coaching veteran with NFL head coaching experience with two different franchises is making a return.
Northwest Oklahoma State (D-II) has hired Glanville as their new defensive coordinator.
"When I accepted this job at Northwestern, I promised to do everything in my power to bring back the winning tradition of the Ranger Football program. Bringing coach Jerry Glanville is a major step in that direction," second-year head coach Ronnie Jones in their release of the news.
"He brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our program. He is considered one of the greatest defensive coaches to ever coach the game and I can't wait to watch him turn our defense into a dominating unit."
Glanville went 9-24 in three seasons leading Portland State from 2007-09, and spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator at Hawaii just before that.
A veteran of the NFL ranks, Glanville had back-to-back stops with the Oilers and Falcons as head coach from 1985-1993. He went 33-32 in Houston and then 27-37 with the Falcons, winning 3 of his 7 playoff games during that stretch.
He also held a number of positions on the defensive side of the ball in the league spanning back to the mid-70's including working with defensive backs with the Lions, Falcons and Bills, and holding defensive coordinator posts with the Oilers and Falcons before taking over their respective head coaching roles.
Most recently, since his departure from Portland State, Glanville has been bouncing around various leagues including the CFL, XFL, The Spring League, and Major League Football in a variety of roles.
